SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.
WRONGLY ARRANGED. A very strong feeling that the school holidays were badly arranged from the parents’ point of view was invent at the annual meeting of householders at Putaruru. Mr. Boyes, in opening the question, said that there was a feeling ;hat the school holidays were held at .he wrong time, especially for the farmers. If they were held in July nstead of in May as at present the larents would be able to take their children away, but at present they lo not coincide with the dairying season.
Mr. Barnett referred to a similar attempt beipg made at Matamata, but as it only affected a few there the matter was allowed to drop. Mr. Hulton pointed out that universal holidays throughout the New Zealand schools had resulted in the Railway Department issuing cheap excursion rates. Mr. J. W. Barr Brown also referred to the time when the secondary schools and the primary schools used to have different holiday periods. This had been abolished. The question lapsed without any action being taken, Mr. Hulton stating that the school would go into vacation on May 10, resuming a fortnight later.
