UNANIMITY WANTED.
THE unfortunate pesition that arose in Putaruru last week as a result of sections of the business people observing different half-holidays, consequent on the afforestation pay falling on the eve of Anzac Day, and the scooping of whatever business may have resulted by Rotorua . sending out buses to the afforestation camps, calls for consideration' by those concerned:
In most to whs "of the size of Putaruru tradesmen’s .associations are in existence, the objects of these associations being of a manifold nature. Firstly, the question as to the holidays to be observed is decided, so that unanimity of action in respect of the closing of shops can be carried out. The need for such action must be apparent to all. Then again the Putaruru business people, like those of all other places, are indoubt subject to many calls in the way of solicitations for donations for various objects. The tradesmen’s associations in many places give their imorimatur to the worthiness or otherwise of such a call, and they make recommendations as to the amount of support that should be given these collections.
In some associations the question of credit is also dealt with. It is understood that the formation of such an association has been mooted on one or two occasions in Putaruru, but the project hes always been allowed to lapse. The suggestion is pnt forward that the time has arrived when such an organisation should ‘ formed. Business these days is obtained hv those who make the greatest effort to seek it, and the action of Rotorua, which, seeing the ec-ttered nature of the afforestation r v . was perfectly legitimate, is an indication that should not be los f s’adit of by the business people of Putaruru. The suggestion, that sou-e o-i-o nisatinn nlon"- the lines - 'l V'--— J --rl. fp put foT-v/ard solely in the desire to benefit the town.
