SHOCKING FATALITY.
SCHOOLTEACHER’S .-DEATH. Shot With PeariTe. Accident at Morrinsvills. A shocking fatality occurred at Morrinsville on Sunday, when a young man, Mr. Cecil John Walsh, schoolmaster at Tahuroa school (Starkey’s road), accidentally shot himself with a pearifie. Mr. Walsh, who resided at the l Royal Hotel, Morrinsville, left in the ! afternoon with the intention of shooting rabbits, taking with him a smallbore rifle. When it was -.discovered on Monday morning that his bed had not been slept in inquiries were made and a search was instituted by the police. The body was discovered in a paddock near the Rotorua railway viaduct. It was hanging on to the wires of a fence, and Mr. Walsh had apparently been getting through the fence when the accident occurred. The muzzle of the rifle was pointing towards the head and a bullet had passed through the brain, death apparently being instantaneous. Mr. Walsh’s parents live at Onehunga, Auckland. Deceased, who was a married man, left two children. A formal inquest was opened before Mr. C. M. Gummer, district coroner, on Monday afternoon, and after formal evidence of identification had been given by James Samuel Dawson the inquest was adjourned until Wednesday morning.
