Through the enthusiasm and energy of Mr. W. T. Miller, assisted by willing helpers, a substantial nucleus fund was established, and your management committee now has the work under way. Further • financial assistance will be required to complete the work and it behoves all interested to do heir utmost to see that this is forth- ' coming. “ Thanks are due to the referees and other officials for the work done 'n the union’s cause. “ During the year the union sustained a severe loss by the removal [ if Mr. Gssparich from Putaruru. Griffiths from the district and also by the resignation of Air. Edmonds as treasurer. The work of Air. Griffiths has boon invaluable and should be gratefully acknowledged ’-v tbe union. In conjunction with Mr. Thompson, the brunt of the work of supervising play has fallen on Mr. Griffiths’ shoulders.” The balance-sheet disclosed a crelit balance of £35. In moving the adoption the chairman said that bdieure* was satisfactory they cotfTd do wTthf twice os much. It meant putting their shoulders to the whfefel and Keeping their eyes on the finance. It would not he until the season was advanced that they would realms how much the’* departure bf Mr. Gnsnarich really meant. The chairman also referred appro•dotivelv to the work done by Alessrs. G. G. Griffiths, A. C. Thompson and S. Edmonds. Air. Flyger, an expert in gymnasium work, had offered to give his services two or three nights a week free of charge to train the players "t the training shed. This was a very good offer, for the value of such training must be apparent to all. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows : Patron, Mr. A. G. Leggatt ; president, Air. W. General. The matter of schools football was left to the teachers to arrange. It was decided to hold a seven-a-side tournament at Putaruru on Saturday, April 27. The medals for same were purchased by the Arapuni club last season but were not used. The Arapuni club has given them for the seven-a-side to be played on Saturday. It was decided to start the club fixtures on Saturday, May 4. Training Shed. The secretary, Mr. J. R. O. Lochhead, said the training shed would cost £142 without electric light. The management committee wished it to be understood that the training shed was for the use of all clubs and representative teams. The Girls’ Hockey Club gave a donation of £3 towards the funds and had promised to run a dance in aid of the funds, and the committee had given the girls the use of the shed one night a week provided it did not clash with Rugby. It meant a big thing to have a training shed of adequate size, for it would make all the difference between success and failure in representative games. Mr. Barr Brown said a lot of zealous work was done by Mr. Miller and his co-workers and on his motion a vote of thanks was accorded this gentleman and those who assisted him. The motion was carried by acclamation.
After the chairman had expressed his gratification at the attendance the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair. Management Committee. Following the annual meeting the management committee met, when there were present : Messrs. J. W. Barr Brown (chairman), A. C. Thompson, G. Dawson, E. R. McCarthy, C. D. Brown, Hamilton and J. R. O. Lochhead (secretary). The matter of preparing the grounds was left to Mr. Hamilton to deal with. Permission was granted the Arapuni club to qhange its colours from green and white to maroon. Mr. Lochhead moved that the gate money on Saturday, April 27, be first used to reimTXrse the Arapuni club for the purchase of the medals and that any balance be divided equally between the Arapuni club and the Putaruru Rugby Union. Air. C. D. Brown moved as an amendment that after paying the Arapuni club for the medals the balance- go towards the union. Air. Bro%vn said the Arapuni club returned poor gate money, hence the fact that not many games were played at Arapuni. Air. Dawson said the Arapuni supporters were entitled to have games at Arapuni. Mr. Lochhead was of the opinion that there would not be any surplus but if there was Arapuni was entitled to it. | That they were all one union now and. club should not be against club was the opinion of Mr. Dawson.
