DEAD KING SUMMONED.
Lawyers alone, and probably only Prussian lawyers, will be able to explain Why the authorities at the courts of law at Hanover have just summoned King Ernest Augustus, who was born in 1771, and died in 1851, *to bring proof into court of his right to the possession of Lelznitz House in the city of Hanover, by 9 a.m.., February 20, 1929. This extraordinary order stands in the current number of the official paper of the local authorities of Hanover (says the Berlin correspondent of the Da ; ly Mail), and includes a threat that if'the king fails to obey, he will lose all claims of possession. [ King Ernest Augustus was a brother of William IV., the last King of I England to be also King of Hanover, I and he succeeded to the throne of Hanover on the accession of Queen Victoria, who was debarred by the Salic law froim the succession. The king acquired Liebnitz House, ‘ an ancient structure, in 1840, “to save j it for the nation,” and it is now used ) as a museum by the city authorities, j The right of the city to it ! is not • clear, and the lawyers apparently can ! find no better plain for establishing it 1 than the summoning of the dead king i from the mausoleum of the House of i Hanover, at Herrenhausen.
