“PADDY’S MONUMENT.”
A HUMOROUS INTERLUDE. At the Matamata Meeting. “ As I may not be on the council after the election, I am going to congratulate myself,” stated Cr. Dee during general business time at the council meeting of the Matamata County Council. Cr. Judd: Are you congratulating yourself on getting off or on? Cr. Dee- I am not sure; hut they have erected a monument to me. (Laughter). It is the metalling on Tapapa road; they call it Paddy Dee’s monument. The amusing part is that it is not connected with me in any way. It was done with Cr. Allen’s money and it is in his riding. CLoud laughter). At a later stage in the meeting Cr. Allen stated “In regard to that monument ’
Cr. Dee : Here, that’s mine. (Laughter). Cr. Judd: Call it de Allen monument and share it. (Renewed Laughter). Councillors enjoyed the little thrust of the member for Te Poi, none more so than Cr. Allen, who has had some little difficulty with the road jn question.
