ANZAC DAY.
PUTARURU SERVICE. Arrangements Made. v T~ A meeting called to make arrangements for the fitting celebration of Anzac Day in Putaruru attracted a small attendance. Mr. J. R. O. Lochhead was elected chairman and Mr. J. C. Ross secretary of the committee set up to make the necessary arrangements. It was decided to hold the service as previously in the Town Hall. In discussing the time for the service Rev. H. Ashworth said that last year he had suggested holding the service in the morning, but the Tirau. people were in the habit of holding their service at that time. Mr. J. R. O. Lochhead preferred the evening, as instead of it being regarded as a holy day it was taken by most people as a holiday and a large number of people were likely to be away. That, however, was his personal opinion. Mr. C. D. Brown stated that the people turned out fairly well in the afternoon. Rev. Ashworth pointed out that some of the country people might not be able to get in for an evening service. It was decided to hold the service at 2.30 p.m. and to invite the Town Board, Chamber of Commerce and school children to be present. Routine matters were then disposed of and the meeting adjourned.
