Tenni3. A return match between the above teams was played over the week-end, at Okoroire, and resulted in some -well-contested games with a close finish. At the conclusion of the match the 0 players and spectators were addressed by Mr. Gubb and Mr. Goodwin, the presidents of the Waiomou and Okoroire clubs respectively, and ■cheers wjfce given by each team for its opponents. Bon Voyage. The local hall was filled to overflowing on the eve of the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carruth for a trip to Scotland and the Continent of Europe. Dancing, interspersed with vocal items, occupied the evening, and after supper Mr. P. Dee expressed, on behalf of local residents, the hope that the guests of the evening would have a pleasant holiday and a safe return. He confided to his hearers that so
great was the esteem for Mr. and Mrs. Carruth locally that he would not be surprised if in reality they were going Home 'to be honoured bythe King, ;and would return as Sir Robert dnd Lady Carruth. (Laughter and applause.) The Rev. W. T. Brabyn spoke of the many kind actions of Mr. and and Mrs. Carruth, their assistance to sport, and everything that pertained to the welfare of the district. Mr. F. Goodwin then handed Mrs. Cavruth a travelling hag and Mr. Carruth a pair of field glasses, as a small token of the esteem in which they were held. Mr.- Carruth replied in suitable i terms, and gave some interesting ■anecdotes of the early days in Okoroire. Mrs. McLean officiated at the piano and Mr. H. Goodwin acted as M.C. A very pleasant evening concluded with the singing of “ Auld I,ang Syne,” and cheers for Mr. and Mrs. Carruth.
