MATAMATA METHODIST CHURCH.

QUARTERLY MEETING. Departure of Minister. j The quarterly meeting of the Methodist Church was held on Tuesday, Rev. F. Gardner Brown presiding over a fair attendance. The financial statement revealed a substantial credit balance, special attention being given to missionary matters. As 1929 was set down as a special missionary year a strong representative committee whs set up to organise a canvass of all church members and adherents and to arrange for the coming to the district in June of Rev. J. F. Goldie, president of the Methodist Conference, and pioneer missionary to the Solomon Islands. It was agreed that one Sunday’s ! collections be designated solely for missionary work. It was also decided i that an effort be made to increase ■ the number of subscribers to the Methodist Times, the official organ of the church. j The meeting arranged to hold cottage prayer meetings during the winI ter months. I The first Sunday in May was decided upon as suitable for the adoption of 7 p.m. as winter time for Sunday services. | Rev. F. Gardner Brown intimated ' to the meeting that he would be leaving the circuit next year.

Refreshments were dispensed by the ladies and the Benediction brought the meeting •to a close.
