Valedictory. A very enjoyable function took place in the Hinuera Hall on Thursday, when the residents of Hinuera tendered a farewell evening to Mr. and Mrs L. Bethel and family, who f" are leaving the district shortly. Music was supplied by Mr. and Mrs. S. Holland, and extras played by i Mesdames Viiatfe and Maud. The evening was occupied with ■dancing with much appreciated items interspersed. The performers were Mrs. Wade, monologue; Mrs. Clark, solo; Mrs. Grimshaw, solo; Mrs. Hayes and Mr. W. Settle; duet, elocutionary items were given by Mr. fc Stevens. In a short speech Mr. C. •" Scelly expressed the regret felt by Hinuera people at losing Mr. and Mrs. Bethel. Mr. Bethel, he said, Tiad built up a very fine business and had been a great friend to the district, always being ready with a generous donation when called upon. After continuing in humorous vein, Mr. Scelly, on behalf of the residents, presented Mr. and Mrs. Bethel 1 -with a canteen of silver and cutlery, / Miss Lola Bethel with some beautiful handkerchiefs and Masters L. and T V. Bethel with fountain pens. Lodge Meeting. The Ma-tamata branch of the Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., met at Hinuera last Tuesday, when the opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Bro. R. Devey and his wife, formerly Sister T. Churchward, of Patetere lodge. The tables were tastefully decorated with flowers, and a very nice supper was served the arrangements being in the hands of Mesdames Hancock and Griffiths. On behalf of Matamata lodge, Bro. ■W. M. Griffiths presented Bro. Devey with a cheque and Bro. Allen, of ; Patetere lodge, made a similar pre•v mentation to Sister Devey.

- Bowling Club. 9 A meeting of residents was held on Tuesday for the purpose of forming a bowling club in Hinuera. A provisional committee was set up, consisting of the following members: Messrs. Hayes, Maud, Oates, Wheeler and Marson, to make enquiries about various matters and report at a later meeting. In the recreation ground there is space for only six greens. The committee is desirous of having the full ■number, and to facilitate this Mr. F. Germann has offered to sell a halfacre section of his farm adjoining the recreation ground. Personal. Mr. Corry, senr., is visiting his son, Mr. Theo Corry, of Buckland road. During the Easter vacation Mr. A. Howe and family, accompanied by Mrs. Rowe’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Mclsaac, went for a motor tour of the Thames and Bay of Plenty districts, returning home via Rotorua. Mr. G. Gee and family have returned from Auckland. Messrs. W. Tiseh and O. Seholz motored through Opotiki, Whakatane and Tauranga and spent Easter camping at Ohope beach. * Miss Lois Wade has returned to Auckland. Messrs. H. Kneebone and C. Brown have returned from a deerstalking expedition at Galatea. Mr. A. Parsons is the guest of Mr. Jas. Beeby. Mrs. Kneebone and Miss M. Kerr are visiting Auckland. Miss D. Mclntyre, of Auckland, has been visiting Mrs. P. Hawke. Mr. and Mrs. J. Oates, of Mt. Eden, motored through at Easter to " spend the holidays with Mr. W. Oates. Mr. and Mrs. J. Mclndoe, of- Dunedin, are the guests of Mrs. Richard Hawke. Misses Mina and Peggy Hammonds, of Auckland, have been staying with •their sister, Mrs. G. Collins. Mr. Hollis has gone to Auckland. Mr. W. P. Darroch is visiting his sister, Mrs. Hcllis. Mrs. and Miss Violet Brown, of Tauranga, haye been visiting relatives in Hinuera. * Mr. J- Kranacher is deerstalking in Galatea. iting her daughter, Mrs. Val. Rasmussen. Misses 1,, and G. Corin are spending a holiday in Auckland. Mrs. Flavell, of Christchurch, is the guest of her brother, Mr. J. Mojr. The many friends of Mrs. S. Wright will be pleased to learn that he is home from the hospital and is recovering from her recent illness. Four Hinuera athletes, Messrs. W. Hammond, R. Germann, W. Oates and A. Brown, were responsible for winning the cup for Matamata Oddfellows’ Lodge at the recent Tirau sports.
