Tirau.
The Church of England Ladies’ Guild held a dance and 500 card evening on Thursday. There was a good attendance and the evening was a good start off for the series to be held. The prizes for cards were won by Mrs. J. Keane and Mr. R. Naysmith. Booby prizes were won by Mrs. Withers and Mr. Kelly. Mr. A. J. Neville fulfilled the duties of M.C. and the music was supplied by Mesdames L. Bishop and E. Selby. The supper was supplied by the ladies or the guild, headed by Mrs. Blacky and Mrs. E. Selby. A 40-ton haystack owned by Mr. R. Litchfield was destroyed by fire this week. The stack was well built and covered but was uninsured. Personal. Tirau friends will be pleased to hear that Mr. Roy Jones, who was formerly postmaster at Tirau, has been promoted from Manurewa to take charge of the Shortland street office. Mr. J. Eccleton, also formerly postmaster at Tirau, was at the Tauranga races and renewed acquaintance with many Tirau and Matamata friends. Mr. A. Watson left by the Ulimaroa on Monday for a holiday to be spent in Australia.
