GIRL GUIDES.
PUTARURU COMPANY. At the garden fete held last Saturday the Putaruru company of Girl Guides made their first public appearance. During the afternoon an item was given in the form of a knot-tying relay race. There were three patrols of six Guides in the competition, which was won by the Skylarks patrol, with the Swallows second and Robins third. Miss Alcorn presented each member of the winning patrol with a book on Girl Guiding, the books being kindly donated by Mr. A. T. Morris. On behalf of the garden fete committee the patrol leader received a beautiful Union Jack, which will be the Putaruru Guides Company colours. A few weeks ago Commissioner Toombs, of Hamilton, visited Putaruru and enrolled 14 of the girls who had passed their test, and on Saturday the new colours were used at a similar ceremony by the Putaruru captain, Mrs. Dodson, when two more Guides were presented with their badges.
