CROSSING COLLISION.

ACCIDENT AT TIRAU. Car Hits Excursion Train. On Sunday evening at about five o'clock an accident took place at the crossing at Tirau on the Putaruru fide of the township. A car driven tiy a young man named Carl WiVHam Patrick McGirr, an employee oi the Thames Valley Power Board, ran into the Arapuni special train as iv —as returning to Auckland. The car was badly smashed up, and Mr. Mo Girr had to be taken to Putaruru for medical attention. He was cut about the head and body. The road where the accident took place leads down to the Oraka river and the crossing is one of the most dangerous on the line. Plans have been prepared for a new overhead crossing and the work is to be proceeded with shortly.
