WHITEHALL COMPLAINT.
RAGWORT ON ROADS. Messrs. White and Patchett, Whitehall, asked the Matamata County Council on Friday, to take drastic action against those settlers who pu}]ed ragwort and left it in the wheel ruts on the road formation. The writers stated that they had put this complaint before the councillor, but he was of the opinion that traffic destroyed the seed. Careful observation of the plants, however, showed that many seeds escaped damage with the result that the weed was spread all along the road frontage. Cr. Judd stated that he had not seen anything to worry about, the total being about twenty plants. He thought that anyone who pulled a plant on the roadside and placed it on the road was doing a good turn. Cr. Allen stated it was necessary to pull off the heads or the seed would ripen. The chairman remarked that a lot would depend on the age of the
plant. , ~ On the motion of the chairman it was decided to reply that the council was doing its best to control the menace.
