RATEPAYERS’ MEETING.

ASSOCIATION FORMED. There were about thirty-five rate- < payers present at a meeting held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Friday, convened by Messrs. J. W. Barr Brown and E. A. Scholz, for the express purpose of forming a Ratepayers’ Association. Mr. Barr Brown was electetd to the chair, and he explained that the first meeting called had not been in order, but the present one conformed with procedure and had been duly advertised. Mr. F. C. Barnett then moved that the meeting form itself into a Ratepayers’ Association. This was seconded by Mr. E. A. Scholz and carried unanimously. The election of officials was then proceeded with and resulted as follows:—President, Mr. J. W. Barr Brown; executive, Messrs. F. C. Barnett, R. T. Smith, J. Gawith, E. A. Scholz, H. W. Lindsey, W. J. Miller, J. A. Ranger, E. T. Henshaw and R. Lee. The membership fee was fixed at 2s 6d. It was decided that the executive meet as soon as possible and submit to a general meeting within a fortnight’s time rules for the guidance of the association. Sbme amusement was caused at the close of the meeting, when, after the president had asked for suggestion to put before the executive, a member urged that they “ meet and pray for rain.”
