POPULARITY IN AMERICA. It seems incredible that over £BOO,000 should be spent daily in the United States on light luncheons served at soda fountains, but the following statement in a Chicago paper to hand gives figures:—

The Americans spend an average of 4,190,561 dollars every day on soda fountains.

The nation’s annual bill for sodas, soft drinks, luncheons, and confectionery served over the soda fountains in the United States totals 1,500,000,000, dollars it was disclosed at the recent convention of soda fountain manufactures here.

“Ice cream sodas account for an expenditure of approximately 500,000,000, dollars fountain luncheons for about 300,000,000, dollars annually, and confectioenry for 700,00,000, dollars,” declares a delegate. “There are approximately 100,000 soda fountains in the United States in which their owners have 300,000,000 dollar;, invested.

“In cities of 100,000 population and over, more than 78 per cent, of the soda fountains are now serving luncheons.”
