PUTARURU METHODIST CHURCH

SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC. The Putaruru Methodist Sunday School held a very enjoyable picnic last Saturday at Mr. Edmeades farm, Tapapa road. Quite a large number of parents and friends gathered and everyone did their best to give the children a good time. The usual outdoor games were played and the swings were wed patronised ; in fact they were net idle all day excepting at the lunch periods, when the children did fuil justice to a bountiful supply of provisions.

After lunch the races were run and >tke indispensable lollie scramble was enjoyed by young and old alike. The following is a list of the races and prize winners:— Giris.—B to 11 years : Ina Fitness 1, Joyce Hooper 2, Myra Richards 3. Over 15 years : Elsie Wheeler 1, Lily Sylvester 2, Gladys Vospcr 3. Sack race, all ages : Elsie Wheeler 1, Gladys Vosper 2, Ina Fitness 3. Three-legged race : Joyce Hooper and Ina Fitness 1, Phyllis Hooper and Joyce Snell 2. Married Ladies’ Race.—Mrs. Barker 1, Mrs. Rutledge 2, Mrs. George and Mrs. Ranger (tie) 3. Boys. S to 11 years.—Claude Worthington 1, Noel Armstrong 2, Ernie Edmeades and Arnie Tongs (tie) 3. Twelve to 14 years : Warren Edmeades 1, Norman Hunt 2, Flunter Cochrane 3. Over 14 years: Bob Edmeades 1, Harry Hunt 2, Ray Ashworth 3. Sack race: First heat, Sidney Ashworth 1, Basil Worthington 2, George Small 3; second heat, Dick Reed 1, Ray Ashworth 2, Bob Edmeades 3. Three-legged race: Bob Edmeades and Harry Hunt 1, Sidney Ashworth and Warren Edmeades 2, Rnv Ashworth and Norman Hunt 3. There were also races for the tiny tots, who were all given gifts. •
