GENERAL NOTES.
USEFUL INFORMATION. Cleaning Fabric Bodies. Cleaning a leather or fabriccovered body is quite a simple job, and, like cellulose, does not involve the meticulous care which is neces-
sary with a varnish finish. All that is necessary after sponging the fabric over to loosen and remove the mud from the corrugated surface is to wash it with soft soap and water ; naturally, it should be leathered over afterwards to dry it off. The soft soap is particularly good in hot climates as it assists in preserving the leather. Stalling on Crossings. It is not an infrequent happening for an engine to stall on a railway crossing, the reason being that many
crossings have a distinct rise to the level of the rails and the driver is proceeding so slowly while watching | out for a train that the engine peters j cut at the top of the grade. Even with a car with a powerful engine it is advisable to change down when approaching such crossings. Not only will this enable the engine to be kept running but it will provide a quick pick-up should such be necessary. Moreover, it will eliminate the tendency to dash over the crossing in topj without exercising sufficient care.
