Won by Ponsonby. The Matamata club commenced its fifth annual open, tournament on Friday. The weatlir was perfect and the green ran true and than usual. There were several Auckland rinks competing, but apart from Morrinsville and Okoroire rinks South Auckland clubs were conspicuous by their absence. Considering the manner in which the Matamata club supports tournaments in the centre, the lack of support ■ given by Waikato is, to say the least, disheartening. Although there were fewer
rinks than usual the tourney was most enjoyable and an interest was maintained till the last round. Mr. Gordon’s arrangements were all that could be desired. At the end of Friday’s play Stew- i art (Matamata) and Sneddon (Carlton) were leading with 4 wins and 1 loss each. JTie competing rinks were:— Morrinsvilla.—Kirk, Crowe, Buchan, Donald (s).
