BACK TO THE EAST.

MR. AND FENDALL. Mr. H. L. Fendall, who for the past {■ few years has been practising as a surveyor in the Putaruru and Rotorua districts, has secured an appointment with the municipality of Singapore, Straits Settlement. Eastern municipalities, in an endeavour to counteract the “ back lanes ” which largely comprise the thoroughfares of the various cities, are largely engaged on detailed surveys of the entire city environs with a view to securing better building lines and general attractiveness of the outdistricts on the lines of modern town planning. Singapore is at present engaged on this work and Mr. Fendall will join the oity survey : staff. A few years ago Mr. Fendall held an appointment in Borneo, which is about 400 miles east of Singapore, >' and so he is well acquainted with conditions in the East. Mr. and Mrs. Fendall will leave Putaruru for their new home early in March.
