Mokai.

Burglary. On Wednesday morning, 16th inst., when Mr. Culpan, the manager of the Mokai Stores, Ltd., went into the store to sweep - out preparatory to opening up for the day, he discovered that the store had been broken into auring the previous night. One of the rear windows had been broken, enabling the intruder to turn the latch and open the window. A tele-

phone message soon had Constable McMullan, of Taupo, on the scene, and as a result of his investigations

two Maori lads, aged about 13 or 14, were questioned, and they admitted having broken into the store. Several articles were recovered from them, and it is understood that they will be brought before the magistrate at a sitting of the Taupo court at a later date. Rebuilding of Mill. The T.T.T. Co., Ltd., intend to rebuild on the site of the previous mill, which was destroyed by fire last November. A gang of men is now busily engaged clearing up the wreck- ] age and removing the old foundation, which is a fairly considerable and j costly process, but necessary before work can be started on the new building. In the meantime by working full time, the No. 2 mill is keeping up timber supplies.

Holidays. The various milling and bush operations closed down for some two weeks over the holiday period, and the residents of Mpkai were soon scattered in many directions. Camping and picnic parties to Lake Taupo and the Waikato river appeared to be the most popular choices, while Auckland and the races there attracted many others. Sports. With the advent or the present spell of hot weather summer sports have come into their own. Several tennis tournaments have been conducted by the local club, and two cricket matches have been played. In the first match the married men bear the single men by a narrow margin, and this week-end a Mokai team defeated a team of Taupo players by the small margin of nine runs. Weather. We have now experienced several weeks of very hot weather, and a few inches of rain would be of great benefit'to the various vegetable and flower gardens, which are presenting a somewhat parched appearance.
