A pupil of the Egmont Village School, Taranaki, Eileen O’Byrne, has a remarkable record in connection with the calf-rearing competitions promoted by the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs, says the News. At the t>reaVing-up ceremony she was presented with two cups, three gold medals, a silver button and two framed certificates. In addition she won £5 2s in prize moneys for her successes in connection with last year’s competitions, when she won the championship for dairy type, was second for condition championship, being beaten only by half a point. Both these successes were in the Friesian-Shorthorn section. At the A. and P. Show she won the Margaret Challenge Cup and exhibited the champion calf of the show. This year she has already repeated last year’s club successes by securing the championship for dairy type and second for condition. No doubt she will add further to her laurels at the forthcoming show. Anothei member of the same family, Ada O'Byrne, also secured two certificates in the calf-rearing, and showed her versatility by winning the first prize in the senior hurdles, second in the senior championship, and second in the 100 and 220 yards. She also won the school championship at both Inglewood and Kaimata sports.
