SILENCE IS GOLDEN.
A COUNCILLOR’S “TUNNEL.” “ There are two wheel marks going through a tunnel of pine trees,” stated the engineer in describing a portion of a certain by-road which was being discussed by members of the Matamata County Council at its last meeting. / “ Whose riding is the road in?” asked a member after the discussion had proceeded several minutes. When a smiling councillor, who hadn’t spoken, was mentioned by a member of the staff as being responsible for the upkeep of the “ tunnel,” another member pointedly remarked, “ He keeps very quiet about it, too!” When the laughter had died down the council decided that the silent member's observations had better be made on the spot, and that the solution of the “ pine-tunnel ” was left with him and the engineer to deal with.
