McNab and Davidson i wrote urging the necessity of reforming the road to their properties near Te Poi, which had never been properly done since its formation ten years ago. The writer was prepared to go over the road with the engineer and foreman. The engineer explained that the first two miles was in fair order, but the other end was overgrown by scrub ancP'pine trees.
On the motion of Cr. Rollett, the matter was left in the hands of the riding member and engineer to attend to. Arapuni Bowsers. Cr. E. J. Darby applied for permission to use the hose and washing down platform at the garage recently owned by Messrs. Armstrong, Whitworth, Ltd., and now taken over by him, and also to erect two bowsers. Granted subject to usual conditions. Tirau Culvert. Mr. S. H. Hamilton, Tirau, wrote asking;for an outlet from the culvert situated below his house. The matter was left in the hands of the engineer and riding member. Paengaroa Block. Messrs. Gannon and Co., Ltd., wrote for further information with regard to the roading of their block at Paengaroa. They recognised that they would have to form the road at the Tauranga end, which traversed their land, but were under the impression that at the Matamata end, where the road would go through land in which they had no interest, that a road was already surveyed. To this letter the clerk replied that the road shown on the maps was in Rotorua county. If the company desired another road to be legalised, following the route of their tramway, it was a matter for their attention.
The engineer explained that the road was a “ paper ” one, and the chairman mentioned that all the information asked for was given in the clerk’s letter. The reply was approved. Weekly Half-holiday. At a special meeting of the council, held prior to the ordinary meeting, the council decided to adhere to Wednesday as the statutory halfholiday, as there had been no desire expressed for a change.
