Bowling.
PUTARURU CLUB. During the past week the following games have been played in the various competitions organised by the Putaruru Bowling Club. Championship Singles.—Holland 23 v. Francis 9; Francis 22 v. King 14; Hollard 24 v. Weir 5; Francis 14 v. Snell 13. Handicap Singles.—Francis (4) 25 v .Hamilton (7) 19. The match between Francis and Snell was, as 'the score indicates, a very close one. Francis was the more consistent, scoring on 12 heads, but with assistance t frpm a 3 and a 2, Snell needed but 3 to tie on the last head. Tempted to drive he washed two balls on these tactics, and on the count lay two up, one short of the number required to draw.
MORRINSVILLE v. TE AROHA. Win for Morrinsville. Seven rinks of Te Aroha bowlers visited Morrinsville on Saturday for an inter-club match. For the second time this season Morrinsville scored a win, although on this occasion the margin was narrow, Morrinsville 147, Te Aroha 143. FRASER STARS. Thames beat Te Aroha in the Fraser Stars match on Saturday. GOLDFIELDS STARS. Waikino visited Matamata on Saturday in quest of the Goldfields Stars and were beaten by 21—15. The rinks were : Matamata, Oates, Barnes, Livingstone, Stewart (s); Waikino, Borthwick, ' Woods, Franklin, Collins (s). The remaining challenges are:— January 19, Te Aroha. February 2, Paeroa. February 16, Morrinsville. March 2,. Matamata.
