PUTARURU FIGURES. Telegraphic and Telephonic. The following are the returns of the Christmas period business at the Putaruru post office, the figures for 1927 being in parentheses. The returns are striking, some of the figures being twice as large of those of the Matamata post office. The Putaruru returns are : Forwarded telegrams 327 (357), forwarded toll calls 337 (242), totals 664 (599), value £29 13s 6d (£25 11s 01); received telegrams 233 (217), inward tolls 261 (181), transmit telegrams 106 (S 4), through calls 129 (98), totals 729 (580); inward mails, 158 bags, 37 hampers (87 bags, 21 hampers); outward mails, 169 bags, 7 hampers (93 bags, 16 hampers).
