The above list is compiled from the electoral rolls. The occupations are set down by members themselves when they enrol as electors. The list shows that there are three members of Cabinet who consider themselves farmers. The new Parliament is composed of 19 farmers, 8 barristers and solicitors, 5 sheep farmers, 5 merchants, 4 journalists, 4 secretaries, 3 agents, 5 members of Parliament, 2 retired farmers, 2 contractors, 1 settler, 1 veterinary surgeon, 1 company director, 1 land agent, 1 linotypist, 1 carrier, 1 printer, 1 honey blender, 1 baker, 1 motor car proprietor, 1 engine driver, 1 clerk, 1 accountant, 1 dentist, 1 manufacturer, 1 draper, 1 grocer, 1 minister, 1 watersider, 1 baronet, 1 retired. There are 12 farmers and 1 retired farmer in the Reform Party, and 6 farmers and 1 retired farmer in the United Party. There are 3 sheep farmers in the Reform Party and 2 sheep farmers in the United Party. In addition to the above-mentioned members there are four Maori members.
