MATAMATA CLUB. New Year’s Meeting. The annual non-totalisator meeting of the Matamata Racing Club was held on New Year’s Day under good weather conditions. There was a fair attendance and some interesting racing was witnessed. MAIDEN HANDICAP, 6 furlongs. Messrs. W. Groves’ and G. Casey’s Master Latour, 8.5 (P. Mcmahon) :.. 1 Mr. T. Carey’s Kanui, 8.11 (C>, Forbes) ..: 2 Mr. N. Banks’ Flapperette, 8.10 (R. Moore) 3 Won by a head. Also started. Tanetoa, 9 (C. Davies); Rangitown, 9 (F. Quin); Stencilhill, 8.13 (F. Dumerge); Kiri, 8.11 (J. Little); Joy Day, 8.10 (N. Burgess); Townsman, 8.5 (T. G. Ruthven). & Time, 1.20. Flapperette was left, at the post. SHORTS HANDICAP, 6 furlongs. Messrs. C. Carmont’s and R. Brown’s Unoco, 8.6 (Forbes) .. 1 Mr. H. Barr’s Regent, 9.12 (liddell) , 2 Mr. H. Vincent’s Oscar, 8.12 (Martin) 3 Also started. High Rose, 9.12 (McMahon). Time, 1.19. Won by a length after leading nearly all the way. OKORQIRE HANDICAP, 7i furlongs. Mr. J. Clothier’s Prince Val, 8.1 (H. Burgess) 1 Miss C. and Mr. J. Grant’s Furrie, 8.1 (G. Forbes) 2 Mr. R. T. Russell’s King Fame, 8.2 (R. Martin) 3 The only starters. Won by three lengths. Time, 1.37 3-5. TIRAU HANDICAP, 11 miles and 15 yards. . .--Mr. J, Clothier’s b g Sports King, 4 years (Valkyrian— Sports Queen), 7.12 (Burgess) 1 Miss C. and Mr. J. Grant’s b g Gold Rain, aged (St. Amans— Shower Gold), 9.1 (Forbes) ... 2 Mr. .H. From a good start Rarangi took the lead, followed by Regent, Gold Rain and Sports King, with Infante and Star of the East last. Rounding the first bend Rarangi was still in front, with Geld Rain and Sports King moving up. On the back stretch Regent held the lead temporarily. At ► the home turn Sports King was prominent and in a ding-dong go to the post he prevailed by a short head. Regent was close up third, with the others bunched. 'Burgess rode with good judgment and desei-ved his win. PATETERE STAKES, 5 furlongs. Mr. James’ Dainty Arch, 8.11 (Davis) 1 Mr. T. Carey’s Kanui, 8.12 (Forbes) 2 Mr. P.
