School Dance. The Hinuera Hall presented a gay and animated scene on V/ednesday night, when the school children held their plain and fancy dress dance. The hall had bees. converted into a bower of greenery by ;he efforts oi the committee. Messrs. Sce'ly, Germann, Clarke and Haw.ce. Deft floral touches were added 1 y the teachers and pupils, who were also responsible for the appearance of the stage, which was exceptionally pretty with bowls of delphinium, pastel-tinted sweet peas and trails of rambler roses. Mr. D. Mclsaac carried out the duties of M.C. in his own inimitable style. Mr. Holland’s orchestra supplied the music, an extra being played by Miss V. Hoffey. It was an exceptionally happy evening for the children and their costumes were many and varied, making hard work for the judges, Mesdames Hollis and Holland.
The prize-winners were:—Girls, over eight,, Queenie Beeby, Telephone Girl; boys, over eight, Jack Beeby, Mexican Bandit; girls, under eight, Heather Germann, Japanese lady; boys, under eight, Stanley Rowe, Folly.
.—--Among those present were: Dorothy Rowe Scelly, Twins; Dorothy Davis, Amerimn Sailor; Biddy Wade, Wattle Blossom; Joftn. Kennedy; Butterfly; Jack Kennedy. American Indian; George Kennedy, Christmas Cracker; Noel Conder, Sergeant Dan; Gwen Scelly, Daffodil; Ruthie Tisch, Folly; Frank Conder, Victorian Gentleman.
Miss Lois Wade, rose pink taffeta, uneven hem; Miss Florence Settle, apricot crepe de chine; Miss K. Tisch, sunset taffeta; Miss Mona Germann, blue taffeta, gold scallops; Miss O. Heoffing, mauve satin; Miss De Ath, crimson,''with gold lace; iffiss A. Conder, blue frock. The winner of the doll competition was Mr. Howard Hawke Mesdames Scelly, P. Hawke, Clarke, Tisch and Miss K. Tisch gave valuable assistance with the supper arrangements. Personal. Master Gordon Hawke, son of Mr. Tliil Hawke, was taken suddenly ill on Wednesday and is now in Hamilton hospital suffering from appendicitis. Mr. McKenzie Scott and family motored over to Opotiki last weekends ® Mrs. McKelvie, of Auckland, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. S. Brindle. Mr. W. McConnell, who has recently returned from Ireland, where he has been spending a prolonged holiday, has been visiting his daughter, Mrs. J. Calder.
