FOR LATE CALVERS.

PREVENTING DISEASE. It is generally understood that late calvers are more susceptible to udder trouble than those coming into profit at the correct time. The flush of grass causes them to put on fat and make a good show prior to milking. In the opinion of some farmers this is the cause of a large number of cases of hard quarters and other complaints. Mr. R. Ramsay, of Kereone, suggests as a remedy milking before calving. This should be done regularly, commencing about a week before the calving date. In most cases once a day should suffice. The effect of this is to relieve the udder of the partly-formed milk. By the time the calf arrived the milk would be good and fresh.
