FAILURE OF CANDIDATES. Power Board Chairman’s Comment. “ Too much jazzing and not enough study,” said Mr. F. Strange, chairman of the Thames Valley Power Board, during a discussion at Tuesday’s meeting on the failure of candidates from the Thames Valley district at the examination for wiremen. The engineer (Mr. N. G. McLeod) ; said that at first candidates from Thames ' Valley did very well, but there was now a great falling off. The boys were not prepared to give the time for study. The manager (Mr. R. Sprague): We are prepared to arrange classes. Mr. McLeod: After a license has been obtained a boy gets an increase in wages. Mr. Flatt: But we have to keep them for five years. The engineer said the boys started at 15s and received a 5s rise every six months. The manager: And they get 18s camp allowance weekly. Mr. Flatt: A boy can make more selling newspapers. The manager: The wages are fixed by award. Mr. Willy: How many apprentices have we now ? The manager said there were ten.
