PUTARURU TOWN BOARD.
MOfiTHLY MEETING. The December meeting of the Putaruru Town Board was attended by: Messrs. G. G. Griffiths (chairman), \V. Yandle, C. C. Neal, A? E. Barr Brown, R- A. Bent, J. C. Tomalin and A. H. Dukeson (clerk). An apology for absence was tendered on behalf of Mr. K. McDermott. %j. : Dog Tax Collector. Tile clerk reported that Mr. H. Muttra had left the district, and it would Jfee necessary to appoint another frog tax collector. Mr. A., Schisker was appointed to the vacancy. Heivy Traffic Regulations.
Following, the reading of a reply to the Public Department with reference to'Ske board’s on the question Wife reduction in heavy traffic fees, the jjyilihMauiJß.ipcinted out that most city flHpes favoured a reduction. 1 the board’s attitude on the matter, he thought that the position should be explained. In cities heavy lorries were limited to a speed of 15 miles per hour, and £ while a reduction might be possible there, it was not so reasonable in the country. If such lorries as heavilyladen grocers’ waggons, etc., were limited to such a speed it must result in increased costs to the farmer, for speed was an essential factor in country deliveries. Some form of differentiation might be possible, for it seemed as if the two cases were quite distinct. The board accepted this view, and it was decided to forward it to the Public Works Department.
Conference Remits. The board unanimously decided to forward the following remits to the Municipal Conference: — “ That the Town Boards Act be amended to enable independent town boards to vote the chairman an honorarium not exceeding £IOO a year.” “ That in order to provide relief to the land and a more equitable distribution of the cost of road maintenance and construction, all main arterial roads as declared by the Gov-ernor-General-in-Council be taken over by the Main Highways Board, the increased cost to be met by an addition to the petrol trx.” Power Board. The Thames Valley Power Board advised that the new receiving office at Putaruru would be opened early in the New Year. Hawker’s License. A hawker’s license was granted to J. C. Roberts. Hospital Levy. The Waikato Hospital Board advised that the levy on the town district for the quarter ending December 16 amounted to £33 4s lid. Hire of Seats.
An application from Rowen’s circus for the hire of the town hall seats was declined. Building Permits. Building permits were granted to Mr. Bruce Scott and Nurse Cliffe. November Receipts. Rates and sanitary fees, £292 8s 3d; drivers’ licenses, £1 16s; hall rents, £4l 3s 6d; heavy traffic license fees, £l6 19s 3d; building permits, £2 7s 6d; sundries, £l3 3s 8d; total, £367 18s 4d.
