FATALITY AT ARAPUNI.
NEAR BRANDON’S POOL. Workman Killed at Pump. On Friday night a shift worker named Aubrey Spencer Taylor, who was employed at the pumping station at Arapuni, where the water is pumped from the old river bed to the new course, was found, fatally injured, by two mates, Messrs. Aylward and Aitken. It appears that when the two workmen named went to the pumping plant at about 8.45 p.m. they could see no sign of their mate, and after calling out and receiving no response they visited the shed in which the pumping plant was housed. The shed was in darkness and on putting on the light they discovered their mate lying near the machinery with one arm practically severed from his body and a severe wound on his forehead.
Deceased, -who was 29 years of I age, had been employed at Arapuni for the past year. His relatives live at Tauranga, where the Burial took place. An inquest was opened on Saturday at Putaruru before Mr. J. W. Barr Brown, district coroner. Formal evidence of identification was taken and the hearing was then adjourned till Wednesday, when further evidence was taken at Arapuni.
