Women’s Division.

FARMERS’ UNION. Monthly Meeting. The usual monthly meeting of the Putaruru branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union took place in the supper room of the Town Hall last Saturday. The attendance of members was very satisfactory, the following ladies being present : Mesdames H. Baldwin, V'oyce, Scott, W. J. Baldwin, Morrison, Worth, Truss, Robinson, Ranger, Bathe, Allwood, Sneddon, McKeon, Brown, Miss Goebel and the secretary. One unusual feature of the meeting was the attendance of several fown ladies, who had responded to the invitation of the division to be present with a view to being enrolled as members. Unfortunately several of these ladies arrived after the conclusion of the meeting, hence their enrolment could -not be effected, but it is hoped this will be done next month. Mesdames Morse and Neal, however, were admitted as honorary members. In addition to these two ladies four others were enrolled as ordinary members, these being Mesdames Goebel, T. W. Fitness, Sloper and Cunningham. A proposal was put forward that some effort be made before Christmas to further augment the funds for the proposed rest room, but after some discussion, acting on Mrs. Sneddon’s proposal, supported by Mrs. Scott, it was unanimously decided that the public had been rather overtaxed in this respect already and that the effort be made later. Several members of the Putaruru Plunket Committee appeared at this stage with the suggestion that the Plunket Society and the Women’s Division combine in their efforts -to establish a rest room. Both bodies decided that mutual help would greatly reduce the difficulties of the proposition, but before going further a resolution passed that nothing more be done until the intentions of the Town Board became known.

At the conclusion of the meeting a further deputation representing the Salvation Army Christmas Treat Committee arrived.

Mrs. Alcorn explained that this committees was concerned with raising funds with a view to making a seaside holiday possible to some of the boys in the Salvation Army Home at Putaruru. Major Armstrong had stated that these boys had not had a holiday of any description for seven years and some had not once in that time spout a night elsewhere than in the home. Major Armstrong hoped, pro-

viding funds were made available, to establish these boys in a summer camp near the sea at Thames during the Christmas holidays. The matter having been discussed at some length a committee representing the Women’s Division was appointed, these ladies arranging to meet the Salvation Army Christmas Treat Committee to discuss the matter generally. The proceedings concluded with the serving of afternoon tea.
