METHODIST CHURCH.

SEMI-JUBILEE. Celebrations at Morrinsville. The Morrinsville Methodist Church is celebrating its 25th birthday this week. Special semi-jubilee services were conducted last Sunday by the Kev. S. Griffiths, of Auckland, who was the preacher at the opening Sunday services on October 18, 1903. Large congregations assembled at all the services. The singing was led by an augmented choir, who, under the baton of Mr. J. T. Osborn, rendered inspiring anthems at both services. The preacher took as his morning subject: “ The Function oi the Church,” and spoke in the evening on “ The Musical Life.” On Tuesday night a conversazione was held in the Masonic Hall, which was well filled. Rev. E. E. Sage presided. The function was opened with the Doxology, followed by prayer by the Rev. S. Griffiths. The musical programme comprised violin solos by Mr. W. Hartley, a pianoforte solo by ) Miss R. Pickett, and songs by Mrs. F. brown and Mr. J. T. Osborn. Revs. S. Griffiths and J. Blight recounted interesting reminiscences of the early days of the' Morrinsville. Church; which at the time of opening was attached to the Upper Thames circuit with headquarters at Te Aroha, and extended from Waihi and Paeroa to Morrinsville, and down the Rotorua line to Mamaku. Both of these ministers had superintended the work of the extensive Upper i Thames circuit, and bore their testimony to the rugged faith, sterling character and self-denying service of the Methodists of those early days. A tribute was paid to the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Shepherd 'Allen, from whose hearts and homestead there had radiated beneficfent influences of timeless value throughout the whole district. Grateful mention was made of the i fact that several early members of the church were still living in I Morrinsville, and in close fellowship with the church, while' special reference was made, to Mr. A. G. Best, who has the distinction of being the only original trustee still in active membership in the Morrinsville Church.

The treasurer's report was presented by Mr. E. R. Pr ngton, and revealed the fact that re semi-jubilee appeal was meeting v.-i a a generous response, upwards of ."0 being contributed at last Sunday's services.

Greeting's were c: pr seed on behalf of the sifter churcr s n Morrinsville by Revs. F. W. Wilkes and J. H. Starnes.

A tasty supper was served by the ladies and a very happy evening was concluded with a hymn.
