METHODIST CIRCUIT.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The Morrinsville circuit quarterly meeting of officials of the Methodist Church was held at Morrinsville on Wednesday night. , The attendance 1 was large and representative. After devotional exercises the Rev. E. E. Sage welcomed the Rev. W. A. Buroy, M.A., chairman of the district, and invited him to preside. Letters of thanks were authorised to be sent to Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Oates and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Burrows for hospitality accorded to Mr. G. R. Bowden (student); also to the Rev. W. A. Burley and Mr. W. S. Mackay for their inspiring addresses at the recent spiritual advance meetings. Letters of sympathy were directed to be sent to several families who had suffered bereavement during the quarter. ( Membership returns showed an in--1 crease in all grades. Reports of the I various Sunday schools and Bible Classes were very encouraging. Miss Hetherington wrote stating that the executive of the district Young 1 Women’s Bible Class Union was now : located in the circuit, and a letter L was directed to be sent to the executive expressing the best wishes of I the meeting for success. The balance-sheet revealed a continued healthy state of circuit .finance.
Foreign mission returns were report]ed at £55, and arrangements were j made for the annual efforts -for home [ missions and orphanage work. The ‘ Morrinsville trust was authorised to I receive the collections at the semi- '■ jubilee services, and a special vote of I £25 was also passed for the semii jubilee fund. Mr. T. G. Westlake was appointed envelope steward at Morrinsville, and i Mr. S. Kay was appointed society I steward at Ngarua. A committee was set up to consider the matter of a circuit picnic. Messrs. G. F. Oates and J. E. Leeson were appointed to audit the circuit accounts, and Messrs. F. West and P. Rushton were elected as synod representatives with Messrs. J. B. Thomas and F. Palmer as substitutes.
The United Churches peace manifesto aiming at fostering goodwill amongst the nations and the outlawry of war, received unanimous endorsement.
Arrangements were made for securing a student for the Christmas vacation, and also for the minister’s holiday in January. Mr. P. Rushton presented the report of the committee appointed to explore the possibilities of employing a permanent assistant in the circuit, and after full consideration it was unanimously decided to apply for a probationer who would reside at Waitoa.
A hearty invitation was extended to the Rev. E. E. Sage to continue his ministry for a fifth year. In accepting, Mr. Sage stated that the more he knew the people of Morrinsville and district the more he loved and ■trusted and respected them. He an. cicipated that with the continued cooperation of the people and under the blessing of God further provrcrs would be registered.
