TE AROHA DISCLAIMS LIABILITY. Matamata Council’s Request. At the last meeting of the Te Aroha Borough Council a letter was received from the Matamata County Council stating that the costs of engaging counsel when the apportionment of the heavy traffic fees was in dispute was £IOB 18s Id, and it was suggested that the costs be appor-

tioned on the basis of the fees collected. The town clerk said he had referred the matter to Mr. Gilchrist, who had appeared for the Te Aroha Borough and Piako County Councils. His own opinion was that the Borough Council was not liable. Cr. Hedge : The matter of having a legal representative w-as never brought up at the conference. It was an afterthought.

It was decided to inform the } Matamata County Council that Mrf j Gilchrist had appeared on behalf of I the Te Aroha Borough Council, which was not liable for any other legal fees.
