CHILDREN’S OPERETTAS.

SUCCESSFUL EVENING. Anglican Effort, A most successful children’s enter--tainment was staged in the Putaruru -Hall on Friday, in aid ,cf the local Anglican Church funds. The mum items on the programme were two operettas entitled “ Red Hiding Hood ” and “ Biuebeard,” while several other items, including pianoforte -selections and recitations were also given.

The big personal success of the ■ evening was undoubtedly that scored by Miss Ada Beca, who took the part of “ Red Biding Hood ” and “ Fatima.” Possessed of a nice stage presence, she played her parts in a finished manner, her elocution being praiseworthy, and her singing voice and true. Another great success was that of the little sister.. Mullane, who in an ■ exhibition of the Charleston, “ brought .down. -the house,” while a popular favourite was little five-year-old Allan Hooper, who recited with perfect self-possession. Though mention is made of seveJJfcal individual items, the work of the •whole company was extremely fine, awhile the Maypole dance and flag .march showed the children at their best.

Much credit is due to Mesdames -J. Bolfe and J. Barnes (accompanpanists) for the great success of the evening, their painstaking efforts bringing its own reward in the generous applause given by a crowded bouse. The door takings amounted to £27.

After the children’s entertainment a dance was held when music was supplied by Mrs. A. E. Barr Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Arnie Brown and Messrs. J. Aspden, D. Henshaw and Dewse. ■ All the children taking part in the •concert programme were entertained to supper before leaving for home, Mrs. R. McLeod supervising the arrangements. Programme.
