A GREAT DAY. Matamata Club’s Opening. Probably never before has there been such a large gathering for the Matamata club’s opening as assembled on Saturday in brilliant sunshine, a glorious spring day. The whole of the viewland from the pavilion to the entrance was lined with summer-clad players and spectators ; altogether there were 120 players, and games had to be arranged in periods of 10 minutes in order to give all a turn. The secretary (Mr. H. Hitchcock) and Mr. H. Keeley (who kept the board) had their work cut out to keep the sets moving without loss of time in between. The ladies dispensed ample appetising refreshments to the large crowd.
