PUTARURU 11, LICHFIELD 11. A friendly match between the above teams was played at Lichfield last week-end, each side scoring 11 points. For Putarnru, F. Brown (2) and Paterson scored tries, C. D. Brown converting one. For Lichfield, Fenwipk, R. Dunlop and Taylor scored tries, the ’latter 'converting one. /'
CLARK CUP. Waipa 30, Matamata 0. The final of the Clark Cup, the Waikato junior representative championship, was played at Te Awamutu on Saturday. The visiting put up a fairly good display but the backs were outclassed. Waipa wonby 30 poijpts to <). WAIKATO RUGBY UNION. Management Committee. A meeting ;of the management committe of the Waikato Rugby was held on Friday night, Present: Messrs. T. Booth (chairman), C. Mqlntyre (Morrinsville), B. Chapman (Putaruru), F. Quin (Waipa), A. G. Yardley (Matamata), F. Udy (Hamilton), T. A. Cooper Referees’ Association), C. Speight (treasurer), T. W. Thompson (secretary), C. McDavitt and T. Clarkin (life members). Loan Application. The secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union wrote with regard to the application for a loan for the Hamilton sub-union, stating that in view of repayments of existing loans being earmarked for applications already approved it could hold out no hope of the request being entertained for some time to come. Rugby Park. The sub-committee appointed to meet the Hamilton sub-union regarding the arrangements for the hire of Rugby Park reported that terms had been arrived at unanimously, but would require to be confirmed by both bodies. The matter was deferred to a meeting to be held in March next. Boyce Cup. In answer to a letter sent to the donor of the Boyce Cup, asking if he would be prepared to hand the trophy over for control by the Waikato Union, Mr. Boyce (Cambridge) wrote stating that he did not feel disposed to interfere with the original conditions and rules.
The Cambridge Union wrote on the same matter, stating that it had been consulted by Mr. Boyce, and it would rather that the cup remain the property of the Cambridge Union. Peace Cup. The Auckland Union and the donor of the Peace Cup, Mr. English, each wrote stating that they could see no reason for interfering with the rules of Peace Cup games. Earlier Annual Meetings. The Cambridge sub-union wrote suggesting, in order that the football in the country districts be commenced earlier in the season, that all subunion be asked to hold their annual meetings earlier. It was suggested that an earlier start of the season would be more suitable for farming districts. The suggestion was generally commended, and it was decided to recommend it to the sub-unions. Finance. The treasurer reported that it was estimated that the Union was now in credit to the extent' of £IBO. He stated that the gate from the Thames Valley game (£l9 2s) had shown a small loss. This was doubtless due to the atrocious weather. The secretary was granted an honorarium of £25 and was thanked for his efficient services. The treasurer was also accorded the sincere thanks of the union.
