PUTARURU S.M. COURT.

MINOR CASES. -■ The monthly sitting of the Putaruru S.M. Court was held, on Thursday, before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M. School Attendance. The Education Department summoned natives, Taylor and Irehi, for failure to send a child to school. Taylor pleaded guilty, stating that times were very hard. He had a contract for the Public Works Department, and he paid men to do the work. He paid them 14s a day, but they refused to continue, and he had to get his children to complete the job. His Worship warned defendant that the children could not be kept home to work. “If it happens again I’ll make it very expensive for you, much more expensive than the work will pay for. In this first case I will let you off lightly, 16s on each of the two charges.” The costs were £5, and a month was given in which to pay. Failure to Account. For failing to return a pair of puttees valued at 3s 9d, T. A. Fricke was convicted and ordered to pay 15s costs. Maintenance. For disobedience of a maintenance order in respect to his wife, the arrears of which amounted to £26 11s to July 13, the case against William Alexander McArthur, of Mokai, was adjourned to November 11, conditionally on him making payments of £4 on October 2 and 16. Orders were made on judgment summonses as follows: —A. H. Dukeson v. A. Armstrong, claim £47 5s sd; ordered to pay amount forthwith plus £1 11s 6d costs, in default one month Auckland gaol, warrant suspended on payment of £1 per week. W. J. King v. Robert Renwick, claim £5 2s 6d; amount forthwith in default five days Rotorua prison.
