Women's Division.
FARMER’S UNION. The monthly meeting of the Putaruru branch of the Women’s Division was held on Saturday. Owing doubtless to the extremely wet weather the attendance was much smaller than usual, those present including the following ladies: Mesdames H. Baldwin (president), Voyce, Sneddon, McKeon, Robinson, W. Brown, Berman, Morrison, Truss, Bathe and the secretary.
A letter was received from Mr. Jarrett, the Government poultry ex-, pert, advising the division that in a short time he would be pleased to deliver a lecture on general poultry management. New Members. Four new members were enrolled. The consistent increase in membership is a source of satisfaction to all in the division, considering that the branch was founded only four months ago with only nine members, whereas now the total membership stands at 35. • Side by Side.
While dealing with the enrolment of this month’s new members, Mrs. Sneddon moved that an invitation be issued to the town ladies in general, to attend the October meeting. It has long been hoped that town members would join up and providing some of these ladies attended the next meeting the general objects of the Women’s Division can be outlined for their benefit. It was unanimously agreed that the town hall supper room be paid for in advance for a term of twelve months, the general feeling of members being one of satisfaction at the reasonable [ j-ate charged.
Rest Room. Mrs. Voyce was responsible for a lot of interesting information concerning the proposed rest room. Although it has only recently been decided to work with the above object in view, it was thought that a rough idea of the cost and design of the room would be useful. Through the courtesy of local tradespeople, Mrs. Voyce was successful in submitting plans and specifications. In this respect it was suggested that the Putaruru Town Board be approached with a request for help and advice. > Demonstration. At the conclusion of the business a dainty afternoon tea was served, during which Mrs. Sneddon gave a demonstration of basket making with flax and raffia. This proved most interesting and was greatly appreciated by all present, several ladies commencing the work then and there.
