Stock Sales.
WAIHOU. There was a good yarding of beef at the Waihou stock sale on Friday, when competition was still very keen and prices and demand were good. The sheep constituted a small yarding and sold equal to ruling rates, while bobby calves, of which there was a fair yarding, sold at late rates. The following was the range of prices:—Sheep.—Fat ewes to 36s 6d ; fat hoggets 32s 3d. Beef.—Heavy fat cows £ll 5s to £l2 17s 6d, medium £9 8s to £lO 10s, lighter £7 10s to £8 12s 6d ; heavy fat heifers £8 5s to £9 ss, forward conditioned £5 15s to £6 12s 6d ; store cows £3 5s to £4 17s 6d ; boners 30s to £2 2s 6d. Dairy Cattle. Choice yearling Jersey heifers to £6 17s ; empty two-year-old heifers £4 to £4 15s ; Shorthorn yearling heifers to £4 11s ; cows close to profit £f3 to £ls 10s, more backward £lO to £ll ; heifers close to profit, Jersey and Jersey-cross £ll 15s to £l4 10s, late calvers £lO 10s to £ll 11s ; Shorthorn heifers £9 to £ll JlOs ; heifers in milk £7 to £l2. Bobby Calves.—Best 16s to 20s, others 9s to 13s.
Pigs. Baconers £3 to £3 6s ; heavy porkers £2 7s to £2 17 s, medium £1 18s to £2 5s ; stores £1 Is to £1 9s ; slips 14s to 19s ; weaners 6s 6d to 12s ; sows close to farrowing £2 to £4 ss. MORRINSVILLE. There was an extra large yarding of stock at Dalgety and Company’s sale at Morrinsville on Thursday and a good attendance of buyers. Competition was keen, beef lines showing quality and good dairy stock being particularly in demand. Prices were as follow: Beef.—Fat cows £6 19s to £9 14s ; others, lighter, Jersey cross, £5 4s to £7 ; store cows £4 17s 6d to £6 10s ; 2- Shorthorn-cross steers £3 15s to £4 15s ; yearling steers £3 5s to £3 12s ; 2-year-old empty heifers £4 to £5 5s ; yearling heifers £3 10s, £4 16s to £5 10s ; others, Shorthorns and Holsteins, £2 12s 6d to £3 4s. Dairy Cattle.—Cows £B, £9 to £lO 10s ; heifers £ll, £l2 to £l3 ; others £8 5s to £9 15s. Sheep.—Fat ewes 34s 6d. Pigs.—Slips 18s 6d to 26s 6d ; weaners 10s to 12s. MATAMATA. There was a fair yarding of beef cattle at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s Matamata sale on Wednesday, and the demand was again keen. There were a few pens of steers yarded. Prices were:— Beef.—Heavy fat cows £lO 9s to £l2 17s 6d, medium £9 5s to £lO 3s, lighter £7 Is to £8 ss; fresh and for-ward-conditioned good quality cows, £5 15s to £6 6s; stores, £4 to £5 Is; boners, 30s to £2 2s 6d; good quality 3- Shorthorn steers, £10; 2 to 21-year Shorthorn steers, good quality, £8 17s 6d; 2 to 2i-year old good quality Holstein steers, £7 17s 6d to £9; yearlings, mixed colours, £4 17s 6d; 2-year-old empty Jersey cows and heifers, £4 Is to £5 17s 6d; choice yearling Jersey heifers, £5 13s to £6 8s; smaller, £4 Is to £5. Dairies.—Choice dairy heifers, £9 10s to £10; backward sorts, £7 to £8 15s; choice dairy cows, £9 5s to £lO 10s.
Pigs.—Heavy baconers £2 17s to £3 12s, medium £2 13s to £3; medium porkers, £2 ss; extra good stores, 35s to £2 2s, others 28s 6d to 335; slips, 18s to 235; good ■weaners, 14s to 19s. HAMILTON. At the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s sale in the Frankton yards on Tuesday, there was a good entry of beef cattle and a small yarding of fat sheep. Values for both classes were unchanged. A full number of fat and store pigs were penned, competition lacking briskness for all classes. Prices were:— Beef.—Prime fat steers £l6 17s 6d to £lB, medium weights £l4 19s to £l6 55,; prime light 2-year steers, £9 18s to £lO 7s 6d, unfinished, £8; prime heavy fat cows, £ls to £ls 12s;
prime heifers and young cows, £l2 15s to £l3 19s, medium and lighter, £ll to £l2 15s; light weights, £8 to £10; rough and plain, £5 10s to £7 ss; fresh conditioned cows, £5 10s to £5 15s; boners, £3 16s to £4 15s; yearling Jersey and cross heifers, £4 11s to £5 6s; best dairy cows and heifers, at profit, £l2 10s to £ls 10s; medium, £lO 10s to £ll 10s; inferior, £7 to £B. Sheep.—Prime fat wethers sold to 45s 9d; heavy fat ewes, 38s; medium, 345; prime hoggets, 32s to 355; forward conditioned hoggets, 30s 6d to 31s; forward conditioned ewes, 245; medium woolly ewe hoggets, 345; same class wether hoggets, 28s; mixed age ewes with 50 per cent lambs, 34s to 34s 6d.
