PUTARURU STREET LIGHTS.

. OUT AGAIN. A Valuable Suggestion. For some months past much correspondence has taken place between the Putaruru Town Board and the Thames Valley Power Board with regard to defections in the service rendered by the latter body to the town. Though every consideration and attention has been given by the Power Board to all complaints, serious defects still occur. , At Monday’s meeting of the Town Board a further letter was received on the matter relative to the street lights. The letter stated an examination would be made and a remedy effected, also that the makers of the street lights guaranteed’ each lamp to have a burning life of 1000 hours. Any lights which failed under this guarantee would be replaced free of charge. Mr - - Yandle stated there were still lamps in the town which were not burning. Mr. Barr Brown asked how the life of a lamp was arrived at Mr. McDermott: Some of tljem only burn three hours. The chairman replied that so far as he knew they were averaged out. Mr. Barr Brown then suggested that the poles should be numbered, and when replacements were effected the number could be noted and the board would then have some kind of a check on their accounts. ■

Mr. Tomalin thought it Was an excellent idea and should be adopted. Mr. Yandle agreed, and urged that the numbering should be done straight away.

Mr. McDermott thought the poles were numbered already. The chairman thought the idea would appeal to the Power Board, as it was such a reasonable one, and that they would do the numbering if it was not already done. Mr. Yandle: It’s no use having the numbers at the top of the poles. They should be put plainly where everyone can see them. It was then agreed that the suggestion re numbering the poles be put to the Power Board with the suggestion that the numbers be quoted on the replacement account, so that full information would be available for both bodies.
