TI-IE suggestion advanced by the Putaruru Town Board in regard to checking the life of the various street lights is a good one and should be easy to put into practice. The plain numbering of every lamp is neither a big nor a cOsIIJi 1 job and' by its use when replacements Sare' Ahade ! much. valuable, information should be obtained. It is as much the concern of the Thames Valley Power Board as it is of the Town Board that an efficient lighting service be maintained within the town district. That the former body is alive to this aspect of the question is proved by the ready and painstaking manner in which endeavours have been made to remedy complaints. After months of correspondence, however, and a special examination of fittings as late as last week-end, two lamps in the main square of the town failed within two days of the inspection. That something is radically wrong somewhere is very evident, and if a life history is kept of every pole, which record is possible at practically no additional cost, it should be the means of getting to the root of the trouble and assist in providing that efficient and effective service which should be maintained in every thickly-populated community.
