PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
MANAGERS’ REPORT. Putaruru Work. The following report submitted by Mr. J. Gawith, honorary secretary, on behalf of the managers of the Putaruru Presbyterian Church shows that great progress is being made:— Report. “ There have been several meetings during the year which have been very well attended and some good work has been put in hand. “ During the year the hall debt has heen reduced by the sum of £BS, due largely to the good work done by the Ladies’ Guild. We wish to thank the guild for their untiring work and efforts to assist us in our work. “ Paths have heen formed in front of the building, and Mr. Brabyn prepared the ground and planted some trees for shelter. There is more work to he done in front of the building 1 owing to loan work done by the Town Board necessitating same. Our gate and fence will have to he altered and the entrance raised. This work must be put in hand at an early date, and we ask for the support and assistance of the congregation in this work. “ The collections for the year have been most satisfactory at services, j showing an increase of £l4 9s 7d over ! last year. The collections amounted to £47 19s Id and sustentation fund to £2B. For mission work the retiring collection amounted to £1 0s 4d.
“ Mr. Sealy has given his services to the church during the year and we have thus been able to have an extra service each month. We wish to thank Mr. Sealy for his kindness. “It is our wish that services be held in the church every Sunday if possible and we ask that Session endeavour to have arrangements made for carrying our wish to a successful end.
“ At our harvest thanksgiving service there were over 100 people present, and we feel th"at such a congregation must have been most gratifying to our minister. “ Owing to the financial condition of the district the donations promised for our building fund have been very slow in coming to hand, but we feel confident that with brighter times ahead our fund will benefit by the outstanding donations. “At the annual congregational meeting, held last August, it was decided to adopt the envelope system, but at a subsequent meeting of the managers it was decided to hold this matter over for 12 months. “ We wish to thank all who have in any way assisted in the work of the church during the year, and ask God’s blessing on our minister and congregation.” General. During the year a Sunday school was started and there are now over 30 pupils, and good work is being done by the teachers.
Mrs. Gawith read the Sunday' school report and Mrs. Gibson that of the Ladies’ Guild. The financial statement showed that over £IOO had been paid off the church building debt. The retiring managers, Messrs. Gawith, Tong and Hamilton, were re-elected.
