The annual sale of pedigree stock at Ruakura State Farm on Wednesday attracted a large attendance of dairymen. Among the purchasers were: T. McDonnell, Matamata, Dominion Seakist of Ruakura, , 56gns (yearling bull); C. King, Waharoa, Dominion Fleetona of Ruakura (yearling bull). 42gns; Dominion Eloquence of Ruakura (Shorthorn heifer), 21gns; J. Hamilton, Waharoa, Dominion Dreamer (young Jersey bull), 30gns: and R. Scott, Ngarua, Dominion Edna’s Mascot (young Jersey bull). 13gns. A story was told by a Presbyterian minister who was travelling in a train recently from Wellington with his wife Xo his home town (relates the Wanganui Herald). Both are loyal Scots, and seated behind them was a young woman returning from a visit to Invercargill, and entertaining her friend with a description of her visit: “ Oh, it’s a lovely place, but so Scotch; porridge seemed to be the favourite dish, and I just hate poja ridge, and everybody spoke with Scotch accent until I just longed for a bit of pure English.” The train stopped and the minister and his wife rose to go out, and as the latter passed the southern tourist she remarked- “ Lassie, next time you go for a holiday go to H—l; you will find no porridge there and no Scots.”
