SERVICES RECOGNISED.

ANGLICAN ORGANIST. A pleasing little function took place >on Saturday when members of the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Putaruru, met at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Parker to pay tribute to Mrs. Barnes, who has acted as church organist for the past seven or eigh: years. •Sr. and Mrs. S. J. Parker acted as host and hostess and there was a big attendance of officials and friends. The Rev. S. B. Wareing, vicar, in a few introductory remarks, stated that they were assembled as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Parker for the purpose of paying tribute to Mrs. Barnes for her faithful and continued .service as church organist. Since occupying her voluntary position Mrs Barnes had not missed a Sunday and her services were greatly appreciated by the vestry, who thought it only -right that some small token of esteem -should be presented. Mr. T. F. Snell, people’s warden,

endorsed the vicar’s remarks, addin ? both the vestry and the congregation greatly appreciated Mrs. Barnes’ faithful service, which had continued for an unbroken term irrespective of weather conditions. He bad much pleasure in presenting her with a silver teapot as a mark of appreciation of her services. Mr. S. J. Parker paid a further tribute to the faithful services of Mrs.* Barnes and proposed the toast of the guest of the evening, which was accorded musical honours. Ins a brief reply on behalf of his wife, Mr. J. Barnes assured those I resent that the evening and present totally unexpected, but were fully appreciated. Mrs. Barnes considered she had only done the duty which fulfilment of tire office requir cuired. On her behalf he thanked them sincerely for their kind appreciation. • The evening was spent in games and social chat, interspersed with musical items. * Before departing those assembled their thanks to the host and hostess of the evening, short speeches being made by the vicar and Mr. T. F. Snell. Musical honours were accorded, and Mr. Parker replied in brief terms.
