LOCAL AND GENERAL.
Mr. L. J. R. Meek has been appointed headmaster of Pukeatua school.
Some idea of the huge attendance at the dance organised by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union in Putaruru last Friday is gained from the fact that though popular prices were charged over £22 was taken at the door. Mrs. F. C. Flyger, of Putaruru, met with a serious accident recently, when she slipped on the concrete at the back of her residence and broke two ribs. Though progressing favourably, Mrs. Flyger still suffers somewhat as the result of her fall. It is understood that the Putaruru branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union is the only branch between Hamilton and Rotorua. T ~ a ? , to the energetic work of the officials the society is making good neaaway and likely to accomplish much good.
Joe Yandle, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Yandle, of Putaruru, and one of the most popular members of the Putaruru school Rugby team, has undergone a serious bout of illness in a private hospital at Matamata. It appears that some weeks ago Joe had a slight boil on the side of his head and received a bump on it while playing in a football match. Poisoning supervened and the unfortunate sufferer had to undergo three operations in hospital, the last operation necessitating the bone being scraped. His condition, though slightly improved, is such as to occasion his parents much anxiety, but it is hoped that the improvement will be sufficiently maintained so th»t Joe may 1' brought home during the course of the next few days.
