Plunket Work.

PUTARURU EFFORTS. Year’s Report. The annual meeting of the Putaruru Plunket and Infant Welfare Committee was attended, by about a dozen ladies. The secretary’s • report, read by Mrs. C. C. Neal, showed that the local society was founded on June 7 last year, the first president being Mrs. E. Ward, with a committee comprising Mesdames Coupe, Halse, Allwood, Gasparich, Crabb, Spear, Scott, Ashworth and McDermott (treasurer). Mesdames Yandle and Leggatt- were vice-presidents. As the society had no funds it gladly 'availed itself of the services of Sister Newman, of Rotorua, who had paid regular fortnightly visits. The town board had generously assited by granting the use of a room in the hall, together with a heater, and had also provided a pair of scales. Other gifts for fitting up the room were made by members of the committee and friends. During the year a Plunket Day had been held, when a sum of £lB had been raised.

There were '37 financial members of the society. The nurse’s report stated that old cases numbered 179, new cases (last month) 7, making a total of 186. The rooms had been well patronised by mothers, and the society was now well established. Owing to pressure of work in other districts it would no longer be possible to call on the Government nurse, and the society was advised to join up with some other branch of the Plunket Society with a view to securing visits from their nurse. Finance. The treasurer’s report showed that there was a credit balance of £2O Is lOd and assets amounting to £l3 15s 6d. Officials. Mrs. J. M. Spear was elected president for the coming year, other officials being as follows: Vice-presi-dents, Mesdames A. G. Leggatt, H. B. Coupe, W. Yandle and H. J. W. Scott; secretary, Mr. C. C. Neal; treasurer, Mrs. Tulloch.
